What will be the future of red-crowned cranes in Hokkaido? Perhaps the
ideal future for the cranes would be to spend their entire lives in their
natural habitat.
To realize the ideal future for the cranes, there are three necessary requirements.
Saving natural habitats
First, we need to stop the loss of the crane’s natural habitat. Already
a large area of the original wetland in Hokkaido has been disturbed or
destroyed.
Decentralization
Second, we need to help the cranes establish populations away from the
current center of breeding and wintering around Kushiro wetland.
Restoration of damaged wetlands
Third, restoration of wetlands is as important as protecting pristine wetlands.
Tawarabashi project
These action plans may seem idealistic and impossible to carry out in reality.
However, we are turning a dream into reality. Learn more.
